Bristol Pen Park – The 1200th Protected Site

If we wanted to put candles on a cake to celebrate our protection of the latest new playing field, it would have to be a mighty big cake! Of course every new protected field is something worth celebrating, but Pen Park is very special, it is the 1200th location secured by fields in Trust, assuring protection in perpetuity.

The Pen Park site is actually a former school, the land used as school playing fields are now protected in perpetuity and have become a wonderful, secure, recreational asset that will always remain accessible by the local community. A new pavilion has already been built on site, and Bristol City Council has established a £200,000 permanent endowment fund from a 106 Agreement. With a local group retaining all financial and managerial control, the future for cricket, tennis and a multi-use game facility, looks very encouraging.

Let’s hope our flourishing relationship with Bristol City Council continues, we are already working towards the next 1200 locations to be protected
