Letter to MPs for saving playing fields
Suggested letter
"Over the last two decades Governments have watched over a substantial loss of land for sport and play across the United Kingdom. This has been brought to public attention by organisations such as Fields in Trust (www.fieldsintrust.org ; previously the National Playing Fields Association), and while there have been some welcome changes in planning and education policy and law to improve the overall situation, the problem still persists.
Playing Fields, recreation grounds, sports facilities and green spaces of all forms are vital facilities. They provide places for healthy recreation and activity, areas where children and young people can play and essential green, bio-diverse spaces in an urban landscape. And in times of soaring summer temperatures, green spaces help cool our towns and cities, providing havens for comfort and relaxation. Once lost, they are almost certainly lost forever.
We are currently fighting proposals that would result in the loss of recreational land at [your field]. As our MP, we need your support. We know that planning decisions are matters to be decided locally, and your positive involvement would go a long way to ensuring that this site is secured for future generations.
We’ve attached relevant information and would very much welcome the opportunity to meet you to explain our position and opposition to these short-sighted proposals.
We look forward to hearing from you."
